Greetings and Salutations

Hello my name is Susie and I am a student in Muncie Indiana.  I grew up in Wisconsin with my parents and younger brother.  Mike's a lawyer in California now and getting married in July.  I'm an avid bookworm and a writer  (although not professionally).  I've been writing stories and poems since I was a child.  The library science degree will be my second college degree.  I graduated highschool in 1999 and then went to Carthage College in Kenosha, WI where I graduated in 2003.  I got a Master's in 2006.  I moved to Indiana a little over a year later and have been happy here.

My love of books is why I am getting into library work.  I want to share my passion with others.  I want to learn as much as I want to teach.  I worked for two summers at a library in Ohio in Acquisitions.  I'd like to do that again, or cataloging, or anything.

Some of my interests are listed in the wordle
http://www.wordle.net/show/wrdl/2987619/Some_of_Susie%27s_Interests I lead a simple life spending time with friends after school or doing homework.

I look forward to learning more in this class.  Good luck to everyone.

  1. Hi Susie!
I am impressed that you already have a Masters! What is it in?
You have lived in quite a number of states. Which one is your favorite? Do you have any pictures to post? I'd love to see your cat.
I like the color scheme of your blog - and I'm relieved I'm not the only one to use blogspot. I chose it because I know nothing about blogging. It's fun though, isn't it?
Good luck in class - and good job on your blog!

  2. Thank you Melanie I am still working on pictures, both of myself and Topaz. The ones I have of myself are old and I don't have any of my kitten. My master degree is in theological studies. It's just a fancy way of saying I am a more academic layman. I'm glad you liked the scheme. It seemed relaxing which is why I chose it. I also opted for blogspot since I've done little blogging. Hopefully we can help each other. I wish you well.

  4. I am so happy to see another fellow writer! (Amber is another one if you haven't checked out her blog, which you should it's great! :) Would you be interested in sharing your stories at all? Or a poem? I love reading others' works. What made you decide to move from Wisconsin?

  5. Terrific start, Susie! You even did a great job of introducing yourself in a different way than on the discussion board. My husband has family in Wisconsin, so that is one of the few states I'm a bit acquainted with. I'm glad you like it here--though I, too, am interested in what brought you to Indiana. I didn't know you had a Master's already, either--have you considered applying directly to the SLIS program at IUPUI? (There are lots of reasons not to, as well, but could be a fast track to working professionally in libraries.) I'm thrilled to see the conversation flowing already in response to your blog--nice job!

  7. It's long past time to answer the questions that I (sadly) didn't know existed. My masters is in theological studies, which is just a fancy way of saying I'm a more academic layman. Yes, I'd be willing to share some of my writing, but at the moment none of my stories are finished. The short answer is I left WI to get out of a controlling situation. When I started this program I was asked the same quesetion. I knew very little about the workings of a library other than as a patron, so I decided I needed to start at the ground floor so to speak.
